Design Services for Harwich Homeowners

Harwich covers a lot of ground and a lot of house types, and the design work varies accordingly. We work in Harwich Port near Wychmere and Saquatucket Harbors, in Harwich Center and the village areas, through West Harwich along the Herring River, and out through East Harwich toward Pleasant Bay and Round Cove.

The town's cranberry-farming history left behind a stock of nineteenth-century farmhouses with small, compartmented rooms, and a common Harwich project is opening a kitchen out of that original arrangement without losing what makes the house worth owning. Nearer the harbors, the work skews toward higher-end waterfront properties where the kitchen is expected to handle real entertaining, and toward seasonal homes that need storage and durability suited to heavy summer use and long quiet winters.

East Harwich, by contrast, is largely year-round and more recently built, which means straighter walls, larger rooms, and more freedom to move plumbing. Whatever the house, the process is the same: measured survey, scaled floor plan, elevations, and 3D renderings before anything is ordered. Vern Hatt is a Massachusetts licensed and insured contractor, Construction Supervisor License #CS62739 and Home Improvement Contractor License #177590.

What Our Harwich Design Service Includes

Kitchen Design

Scaled floor plans, elevations, and a full cabinet specification. Work triangle, storage, appliance placement, and clearances are all resolved on paper before anything is ordered.

Bathroom Design

Powder rooms through primary baths. Vanity sizing, fixture layout, tile plans, lighting, and ventilation, drawn to the room you actually have.

Cabinet Selection

U.S. Cabinet Depot, Forevermark, and Versiniti custom cabinetry on display at our North Eastham showroom, so you can open a real drawer before you commit.

3D Renderings

Photo-style renderings of the approved plan. Most Harwich clients change at least one thing after seeing them, which is exactly the point.

Countertop & Finish Planning

Granite, quartz, and Corian selections coordinated with cabinet finish, hardware, backsplash, and flooring so the whole room reads as one decision.

Design Through Construction

We are a licensed contractor as well as a design office, so the plans can be handed to our own crew or to yours without a translation step.

Design Considerations for Harwich Homes

Farmhouse Floor Plans

Nineteenth-century Harwich farmhouses were built as small separate rooms. Opening them up works, but the header, the chimney, and the original stair all have to be dealt with in the plan.

Harbor-Area Homes

Near Wychmere and Saquatucket, kitchens are expected to handle real entertaining. Prep zones, beverage stations, and appliance capacity get planned for a full house, not a weeknight.

Seasonal Rental Durability

Homes that rent through the summer need finishes and hardware chosen for turnover and heavy use. That changes the countertop, flooring, and door finish specification.

East Harwich Year-Round Homes

Newer East Harwich construction gives us square rooms and flexible plumbing runs, which opens up layouts that are not possible in the older village housing.

Our Design Process

1

Consultation

A free visit to your home to talk through how you use the room, what is not working, and what the budget needs to be.

2

Measure & Survey

We take full field measurements, note where the plumbing, venting, and structure actually are, and photograph the existing conditions.

3

Layout & Concept

A scaled floor plan and elevations, usually with two or three options so you can compare how each one lives.

4

Selections

Cabinet line, door style, finish, countertop, hardware, and fixtures, chosen in the showroom against real samples.

5

3D Renderings

Renderings of the approved plan so you can see the finished room, then a final cabinet specification for ordering.

New This Season

Two things worth knowing about before you start planning a Harwich project this fall.

🍂 New for Fall 2026: Haven Sage Cabinets

Sage green has moved from accent island to full kitchen, and the Haven Sage line is now on display in our North Eastham showroom. It reads especially well in Cape houses with a lot of natural light and white trim, and it pairs cleanly with both honed quartz and warm wood floors. Worth seeing in person — greens are notoriously hard to judge from a photo.

🏡 Planning an ADU in Harwich?

Massachusetts now allows accessory dwelling units by right in single-family zoning districts, and Cape Cod towns are seeing steady interest. Our sister company, Lower Cape ADU, handles the design and construction of the unit itself. We design and build the kitchen and bath that go in it — which, in a footprint that small, is most of the project.

Harwich Design Questions We Get Asked

Can you open up a small Harwich farmhouse kitchen?

Usually yes. The question is what the wall is carrying and what is running through it. We settle the structural and mechanical questions during design so the layout we hand you is one that can actually be built.

I rent my Harwich house in the summer. Does that change the design?

It should. Rental turnover argues for harder-wearing countertops, more forgiving floor finishes, and hardware that survives being used by people who do not own the house. We specify accordingly.

Do you travel to Harwich from Eastham?

Regularly. Harwich is about a half hour from the showroom, and we have completed projects across the village, Harwich Port, and East Harwich.
